NIKEOTB

Spotted on 34th Street, a digital billboard for Nike supposedly uses "cool" typography but ends up reminding us of 1988:

Unfortunate Logo

A logo for Activia Yogurt that resembles a pelvis with a dong. So it's sort of appropriate that Jamie Lee Curtis is the spokesperson.

Unfortunate Logo

Spotted on 60th Street: some unintentional use of negative space creates neo-Nazi imagery. (Plantar fascist?)

A thus endeth a week of lazy EADJ entries. See ya next week!

First Unfortunate Logo of 2009

Found in the iTunes Applications store, a logo for Wine Enthusiast Guide:

Unfortunately, it looks like the crotch of a half naked dude with a red t-shirt and some serious bush.

Something I Will Mention That Will Start Bothering You, Too

That gap of blue space in front of the word "Rangers" in the New York Rangers logo. Unacceptable.

Look at it.

Here's the older logo from '96, which was better and worse:

A Response.

Dear Eat A Dick Joel Enterprises,

It has come to our attention that your blog's writer(s?) disapprove(s?) of vagina-shaped logos, saying they're ill-suited for representing one's business. We could disagree more. There is nothing wrong with the yonic shape of the female genitalia. After all, we were all birthed from one. Or in the case of us who were born Caesarian, we were conceived through one. Or in the case of us who were fertilized in vitro AND were born Caesarian, uh, never mind that group. Those are fucking freakjobs.

Anyhoo, we at Kayak.com would just like to defend our logo against your snide remarks. Although our logo is obviously based on a kayak shape with a nice visual pun of an eye to reinforce our search capabilities, the fact that it happens to resemble a woo-woo does not detract from its beauty or relevance. Hell, all of us could use a little poontang when traveling, am I right, fellas? LOL!

But seriously, the sexual repression that graphic design has been under is starting to erode. Women are being prouder of their genitals than ever. The yonic shape is starting to be a popular element not only in design but in pop culture as well. Just look at David Cook's new album cover:

In summary, blah blah blah blah pussy logo good blah blah lazy blah blah,

Sincerely,
Henry Paulson,
President of Kayak.com and United States Treasury Secretary

How Not To Design a Logo

DON'T make your logo mark in the shape of a vaj.

And if you must design your logo to be shaped like a vaj, DON'T chose the wrong color. Worse yet, DON'T highlight the letters of your name to spell out the name of that color inside the canoe shape. Freda.

Unfortunate Logo Du Jour

From The Metro Newspaper, an ad for some upcoming condos:

Guess they were going for "classy" and "organic." What they ended up with looks like "two mice escaping a vaj."

Unfortunate Logo: Non-Curse Edition

Here we have the logo for New York's Actors' Equity Association. I understand that it's a geometric simplification of the comedy and tragedy masks. But it looks like a big derriere sitting on a snake.

Either that, or Grandma dropped some spaghetti on her big pair of hanging bosoms. I can appreciate that the logo is drawn from three simple shapes, but someone should have eyeballed it closer before sending to print. And by the looks of it, it was an update to a previous design (founded in 1913 for crying out crackers) using Adobe Illustrator or Microsoft Paint.

We also accepted:
Camel mouth with lipstick
Two downward Mario World Bullet Bills kissing
An injured scrotum after a naked fencing match
A drunken Chinaman's eyes from behind sunglasses

Unfortunate Logo of the Month

There's not exactly a plethora of vaj in a blog named "Eat a Dick, Joel," so it's always refreshing to find a nice slit or tomahawk wound when it wanders through our doors. But what's disturbing about this unfortunate logo is that the cooter looks propped open with chopsticks.

But maybe that's just the dirty minds of the EADJ editing staff. What did other people in the office have to say?

A "G" is born. -Larry

Cool but meaningless and dated. 2001
-Matt Webb

Someone really needs a trim down there. -Michelle Litos, who probably has used her ginormous box of Brazilian wax by now (see all of the May 3 entries)

Is this the e-vite for Boblett and Brad's going away party???? -Lauren F

Those 3 horizontal rectangular shapes might look nice Feeling like those arc shapes, top one going up, bottom One going down, and the center one emulating the center Shape (with the "G") but rotate 90 degrees and 1/4 as fat. Move the 2 dots around the "THE" and replace the arrows. - The always professional Andrea Park

Educational material for men of all ages. Prodding sticks, not included. - Nikki Baker, whose train keeps rollin'

A yonic logo to match a high class bar, unlike Cans. -J'Net

And what do you think of the logo, Pewter Bear?

Fuck off, Pewter Bear. You don't know shit.

Eat This, Joel

(pictured above, the Unfortunate Logo of the Month: Jack Link doesn't realize his logo looks like a naked black dude from the waist down)
